This blog started out as a series of observations when our family moved to Italy from Manhattan in 2011. The part about staying two years turned out to be famous last words. I still write observations about Italy when the mood strikes, but since I spend a lot of time doing illustration now, that gets posted here as well.

I recently updated my blog theme so if some of the media are in weird formats, I ask your patience as get seven years worth of posts adjusted. The archive, categories, and a follow button are at the bottom of the page. Instagram is just under the blog title.

  1. This is going to be fun! I’ve only had time to scan quickly this morning because I need to get busy, but I can already tell I am going to love reading this. Two years? I didn’t realize that was the plan.

I’ll put you in my reader! šŸ˜‰

  2. I’m not sure that there is a plan! I just like the name, and the job contract is two years. Maybe it’s a way of saying we really don’t know how long we’ll be here, so we’re going to try to appreciate it while we can!

  3. I’m looking forward to reading more about your new home, Laura. I’m sure you must be glad to have the actual move behind you. It is fun to see and read about all those little details that make up the Italian culture and landscape!

  4. GretchenJoanna, I’m sorry it took me so long to approve your comment! I thought I’d done it days ago, but sometimes when you push the approval button in WordPress, nothing happens! (No doubt I’m doing something wrong.) So I didn’t realize until today that it was still waiting. At any rate, once approved, always approved, so you shouldn’t have to wait again.

A blessed Advent to you, too!

  5. What a beautiful picture! I usually read on google reader but clicked over the the blog today. I don’t know how long you’ve had this picture up but I hadn’t seen it. Really lovely.

    1. Thanks! I did some blog housecleaning last week to create space for article and book lists, and when I did so, I realized I had a more personal photo for the intro post. It’s almost a year old, but hey–it’s a personal photo with Torino in it!

  6. I lived in Torino for two years and look back on it fondly. I wish you well in your adventure ahead and hope you happen to find the same network of fun-spirited people I happened across…and that they are not furbissimi.
Best Wishes From Across The Pond,
